Charles Wood Obituary

Charles “Chuck” T. Wood died on December 26 at the age of 100 at Spring Ridge Retirement Center at Charbonneau in Wilsonville where he and his late wife, Norma, resided since 2001.Chuck was born in Portland on November 2, 1912, the second oldest of six children of W.T. and Mary Edna Wood of Portland.

Due to the economies of those times, Chuck was encouraged to find employment rather than attend high school. His early years of employment included positions with Olds Workman & King (then a downtown retail competitor to Meier & Frank) and Mieir & Frank Co. WWII led to work for Willamette Iron & Steel Co. at the Naval Ship Yards on Swan Island. Following the war, Chuck returned to sales, selling RCA products to dealers. When RCA decided to no longer sell directly to dealers, only to distributors, Chuck put his RCA experience to work with the local distributor, Harper McGhee Co. That distributorship was later purchased by the Barbageleta family who renamed the business as North Pacific Supply Company. North Pacific was for years the successful area distributor of RCA and Whirlpool products. Chuck served as General Manager of North Pacific from 1953 until his retirement in l982 and was honored many times by RCA and Whirlpool for the successes of North Pacific.

Chuck’s first priority in his private life was his family. His wife, Norma; and his son, Craig predeceased him.

He is survived by his daughter, Joanne Bailey of Portland; his daughter-in-law, Maryann Wood of Portland; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Chuck’s second priority in his private life was his golf and membership at Columbia Edgewater Country Club from 1956 to 2002 where he carried a handicap as low as 5 at times and shot several rounds under his age in his senior years. He was proud of his seven holes-in-one.

A funeral service will not be held pursuant to Chuck’s wishes.

Remembrances by relatives can be sent to his surviving daughter or daughter-in-law. Other remembrances may be made to Legacy Hospice McMinnville, Good Samaritan Foundation, PO Box 4484, Portland, OR 97208.
