March 4, 1928 ~ February 26, 2012 (age 83)
He was born in Portland on March 4, 1928, and graduated from Grant High School. Samuel joined the U.S. Army as a paratrooper. He graduated from OSU and went to Medical School at OHSU, receiving his orthopedic and hand specialty training in New Orleans. On his return to Portland he practiced at the Orthopedic and Fracture Clinic for 37 years.
For 35 years he raised and showed Tennessee walking horses. He was an avid hiker and fisherman and enjoyed his trips to the Deschutes River and Sun Valley, Idaho. He was a member of the Portland MAC where he played squash. He worked hard in his garden and was an excellent cook and baker.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Patricia; five children, Peter, Matthew, Todd, Christyn and Lisa; and six grandchildren, Joshua, Shelby, Sienna, Charlie, Tianni and Anneliese; and his beloved cat, Hobbs.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Mary’s Woods Chapel, 17400 Holy Names Drive, Lake Oswego. A reception will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Health Assistance Foundation/ Alzheimer’s Disease Research: www.ahaf.org/alzheimers.
