Christine Knodt passed away April 24, 2022. She was preceded in death by two siblings, Daryl Brooks and Charles. She is survived by her husband, Robert S. Knapp: sister-in-law, Deborah Knodt; nephew, Shawn Knodt and spouse, Elaine; niece, Jennifer Loeffler and spouse, David; and nephew, Stephen Knodt and spouse, Nisa; and by many friends. Christine herself was blessed to have led a life of fierce beauty and devotion. Born in Windham, Conn., July 31, 1940, she spent her childhood with her parents in Ithaca, N.Y., College Park, Pa., Detroit, Mich., Indianola, Iowa, and Wayzata, Minn. Having designed theatrical costumes since her undergraduate studies at Carleton College and the University of Minnesota, she completed in 1972 an M.S. degree in the Department of Design and Environmental Analysis of the College of Human Ecology at Cornell University, with a thesis entitled “A Description of the Aesthetic Nature of Costume: An Exploratory Essay.” She designed several productions at Theatre Intime and the Truck Stop Theatre at Princeton University, studied voice with Shirlee Emmons in Princeton and New York, studied sculpture and drawing at the Art Students League in New York and photography at the Portland Art Museum, and showed part of her work (mostly photographs of the monastic community of St. Martin’s Abbey in Lacey, Wash.) at a solo exhibition in Kansas City, Mo. In Portland, she sang in the choir at St. Philip Neri and for many years in the choir at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church. Those who knew and loved her feel blessed by her keen intelligence, curiosity, grace, joy, sense of beauty, kindness, and love of others. The family requests that in lieu of flowers any donations be made to the icon fund of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Portland.” A funeral will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, April 30, 2022, at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 2210 S.W.
