Jim was born February 15, 1940, the youngest of three boys, to Franklin and Elizabeth Ray. For the first five years, the family lived on Canyon Road in West Slope. In the summer of 1945, the family moved to Sylvan in time to celebrate the end of WW II and then on to Portland six months later. It was there that Jim started the first grade at St. Claire’s Catholic grade school. In the summer of 1948 the family returned to the Beaverton area and moved into the house on Huber (currently 170th) Avenue. At this time Jim transfered to St. Cecelia’s, and graduated in 1954. He then attended Beaverton High School, where he was a pitcher for the baseball team, before enlisting in the US Navy. Jim went to boot camp in San Diego followed by hospital Corpsman training at Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1961 and enrolled in business at Portland State College. Using his Navy training, he supported himself while in school by working in the medical laboratory at Good Samaritan Hospital. Following graduation he went to work for Aetna Insurance. Early in his career at Aetna, Jim got his real estate license and went to work with one of his former school buddies, Dave Delahunt. Following his retirement from real estate business, Jim volunteered as an assistant tennis coach at West View High School. Jim is survived by two daughters, Julie and Jennifer, his grandchildren, Gunnar and Lucy, his brother Don Ray, and his wife Jackie Ray.

A Cemetery Veterans Service to honor this great veteran will be held at Willamette National Cemetery. Father Tim Murphy will officiate. Military Honors will be provided by the U.S. Military Honor Guard.
