Joan passed away after battling lung cancer. She was born in Portland, and grew up in the Piedmont neighborhood. She attended the University of Portland School of Nursing.

In 1955, she married Richard “Dick” Van Dyke and they started their family. She worked for years as a medical assistant and technician.

Joan is survived by her husband of 60 years, Dick; four sons; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, 2015, at St. Francis Catholic Church, Sherwood. A private interment will be held Monday, August 10, 2015, in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Flowers may be delivered to the church.
