January 22, 1923 ~ June 23, 2015 (age 92)
Anne was born in Lonerock, to Irish immigrants Thomas and Catherine (Canavan) McIntyre. Shortly thereafter, her father bought the Lone Pine Ranch south of Hardman, where Anne grew up with two sisters, Mary “Molly” and Rita, and learned early how to herd sheep.
She attended a one-room school in Burton Valley where two wonderful teachers, Verna Howell and Gladys Breshears, inspired her love of learning. After a year at Heppner High School, Anne went on to boarding school at St. Joseph’s Academy in Pendleton, where she developed a love of classical music, art, literature and her faith. She graduated as valedictorian of the class in 1940. After two years at Oregon State College, she went to work for the U.S. Army Air Force bases in Pendleton and Spokane as a court martial reporter and duties in the area JAG offices.
In 1945, Anne married First Lieutenant Arthur Hutchinson. After he returned from duty, then a captain in China, in 1946, they settled in Portland. They built a home in the Multnomah area, where their three children, Mike, Larry and Patricia, grew up. Anne did part-time work and volunteered in parish and social ministries with the Oregon Symphony and BirthRight for more than 20 years.
Anne was supportive of her husband’s many years of Army duty and active reserve. He retired in 1972 as commander of the 104th Reserve Training Division. She loved Mt. Hood, the vast ocean at Manzanita, the skies of Eastern Oregon, music, bridge and first and foremost, friends and family.
Anne was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur in 1993; both parents; and both sisters.
She is survived by her three children, 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 2, 2015, at Mary’s Woods at Marylhurst Chapel.
Remembrances may be made to Project Rachel (c/o Catholic Charities) or St. Vincent de Paul Society.
