November 18, 1925 ~ May 6, 2014 (age 88)
He met his wife, Mary Ellen Keys, in Pendleton. He started his career in law enforcement with the Oregon State Police. Soon after he was accepted into the FBI. As a Special Agent, he received many letters of commendation from J. Edgar Hoover. After retiring, John accomplished his dream of being in business for himself as the owner of Helfrich Tire Center in Portland.
John and Mary Ellen loved to travel. They were married for 60 years and have two daughters, Janet and Julie. They also have two grandchildren, Rachel and Ryan.
He will be fondly remembered for his generosity, integrity, work ethic, and sense of humor, and greatly missed by his family and friends.
You can still show your support by sending flowers directly to the family, or by planting a memorial tree in the memory of John Helfrich

Our thoughts are with your family at this time. We enjoyed meeting and knowing John even though it was for a short time. May you all be comforted with the knowledge that he is at peace now.
