March 20, 1927 ~ August 3, 2018 (age 91)
Alan Eugene Schlosser passed away peacefully the morning of August 3, 2018 with family at his side holding his hands.
Alan was born in the family home in Carlton, Oregon, to Carl Cleveland Schlosser and Rita Lorene (Brooks) Schlosser. His mother’s family owned the Carlton Nursery, his grandfather developed the Brooks prune. He started his lifelong, strong work ethic as a child working at the nursery with his many cousins. His family moved to Portland where Alan attended Llewelyn Grade School then Washington High School. At Washington he was Freshy King, started his collection of cashmere sweaters and made many of the friends he had throughout his life. Alan enlisted in the regular Navy in 1945. His stint in the Navy took him to the North Pole with Admiral Richard E. Byrd then he spent time at the South Pole qualifying him for membership in the elite Frigid Circles club. After the Navy Alan went to the University of Oregon where his lifelong love of U of O began. Go Ducks!
He then met the love of his life, Lorraine Danna, at the Log Lodge in Zig Zag, Oregon, after a day of skiing on Mt. Hood. They married July 19, 1952. Their family was complete after the arrivals of daughter Lynn Carol Schlosser and Robert Alan Schlosser.
Alan started his own business, Insurance Sales Corporation and worked into his early 70’s. Business took him to Honolulu where he began his love affair with the Hawaiian Islands. He skied until a heart condition stopped that. He never lost his passion for golf and was a member at Oswego Lake Country Club and Astoria Golf and Country Club. He spent many happy times at the beach house with family and friends creating traditions honored still.
How do we list all we will miss about our very special husband and father? He was so smart! He taught me to have an opinion, however more important was to be able to back that opinion up. He was an incredibly sweet man with an incomparable sense of humor. The man was funny and quite clever! He loved all kinds of music with a particular fondness for jazz. He was affectionately known as “the Rev” by many, many of his interesting and varied group of friends. He counted a Federal Judge as his best friend, was close to a U of O Head coach since Coach was a young man and Evel Knievel once asked him to be his business manager. He was a character! He will truly be missed.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Schlosser; daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Phil Guzie; grandson, Ryan Schneider; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Suzi and Jake Underwood; and great-granddaughter, Kaitlin Underwood. He was predeceased by his son, Bob Schlosser.
Per his wishes no services are planned. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice.
