October 3, 1919 ~ January 6, 2017 (age 97)
Ami was born to Taitaro and Mitsu Nakao in Enumclaw, Washington, on October 3, 1919. She moved to Gresham in 1940, when she married Kazuo Kinoshita. Together they owned and operated a family farm in the area. After retiring from farming, they enjoyed bowling, gardening, caring for their granddaughter Kim, watching their grandsons play tennis, and traveling to Virginia to visit their daughter and her family. Ami was a formidable opponent in board games and became an avid fan of the Portland Trailblazers. She was a devoted caretaker for many family members and is remembered for her gracious, loving, and generous spirit.
Ami was preceded in death by her husband Kazuo and many loved members of the Kinoshita and Nakao families, including her brother, Emil Nakao, and sister, Austa Kawashima. She is survived by her children, Jayne Ichikawa (Shinya), Cheryl Freeman (Richard), Ken Kinoshita (Betty); grandchildren, Jeff Ichikawa (Junko), David Ichikawa (Jenna), Sara Line (Jeff), Lauren Freeman Fisher (Brandon), and Kimberly Kinoshita; five great grandchildren, Shawn, Martin, Mika, and Alex Ichikawa, and Lucy Kaz Fisher. She will also be missed by many nieces and nephews and her best friend, Jean Robinson.
At her request, her family will have a private service at the Oregon Buddhist Temple. Donations may be made in Ami’s memory to the Oregon Buddhist Temple.
