April 4, 1924 ~ May 9, 2013 (age 89)
Bertha Elizabeth Raz was born in Chehalis, Washington to Swiss immigrant parents, Arnold and Elsie Blaser.
At the age of five, she went to live with her Aunt Annie and Uncle Henry Tannler in Portland. She grew up on the family farm, Multnomah Dairy, currently Gabriel Park in SW Portland. Bertha graduated from Commerce High School with a business preparatory emphasis. For many years, she worked as the Office Manager at Strohecker’s Grocery.
She married Paul Raz in 1951 and their loving relationship was a role model for their three children, Sharon, Mark and Martin.
Bertha served God throughout her life. She worked with the youth in Christian Endeavor, taught Sunday School, served at the Union Gospel Mission and volunteered with Luis Palau Association.
She took many trips with Paul across the United States and Europe and especially loved hiking the Swiss Alps. Bertha will always be remembered for having a joyful spirit and a wonderful sense of humor.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Larry) Zirschky; son, Martin (Keri Jo) Raz; and grandchildren, Joshua and Bethany Zirschky and Jessica, Marcus and Davis Raz.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; and son, Mark.
A Memorial Service will be held in Greater Portland Bible Church, Wednesday, May 22, at 3 p.m.
