Brian Reynolds Obituary

Brian Christopher Reynolds (also known as B.C. by good friends and colleagues) was born on January 19, 1944 in Berkeley, California and died on March 30, 2015 in Rosemount, Minnesota at the age of 71. Brian was predeceased by his parents Aldridge and Patricia Reynolds. He is survived by his loving wife Mary Reynolds, children: Jackie (Michael) Rushton, Christopher (Kelly) Reynolds, Anne-Marie (Matthew) Sweeney and four grandchildren Luke and Madeleine Reynolds, Lucy and Molly Sweeney, and sister, Kathleen Hendren (Meaghan Wheeler) of San Jose, California.

Brian had a long and storied career in the military and law enforcement. His military career began as a 17 year old entering the Navy, serving two tours in Vietnam. Upon his return from the Navy, Brian attended Mt. Angel College graduating with a degree in history in 1968. Having had a taste of law enforcement while in college, through police reserve work, Brian began a 30-year career in law enforcement following graduation. He began working at Multnomah Sheriff’s Dept.(MCSO) in 1968. Brian was recruited for an investigator position with the PUC and transferred to this position for 10 years, returning to the MCSO until his retirement in 1998. During his tenure at MCSO, Brian completed a master’s degree in Criminal Justice and Education at the University of Portland.

Brian ran a parallel career initially in the Army National Guard Special Forces and ultimately was recruited to join the Coast Guard Reserve. He went to Officer Candidate School and worked at various Port Securities Units on the Oregon and Washington Coasts. He retired, after 20 years as a Lieutenant Commander.

After retirement from MCSO, BC went to work for the U. S. Navy becoming a college professor in its Program Afloat College Education (P.A.C.E.) administered by Central Texas College. BC taught Criminal Justice related classes for 5 years on the aircraft carriers – LINCOLN, NEMITZ, STENNES, and on other smaller vessels. This was followed by some teaching of Criminal Justice related classes at Tillamook Community College and substitute teaching history classes at Neah Kah Nie High School in Rockaway Beach, Oregon.

The love of Brian’s life has always been his three children – Jackie, Chris, and Annie. He maintained an active and enthusiastic involvement in their lives growing up and was very proud of who they have become as adults. Brian was a great storyteller. Anyone talking with Brian would become aware of his children, their lives and their accomplishments: conversations would always include something about one or all of them. This love could only be surpassed by the joys of becoming a grandparent. His grandchildren, Luke, Madeleine, Lucy and Molly became a new and entertaining focus of his life as PAPA.

Late in life Brian met Mary Davies and in 2006 they began sharing a life together in Minnesota. They were married in 2009. Being a West Coast Guy through and through, Brian began introducing Mary to life in Oregon and in particular Rockaway Beach. After Mary’s retirement in 2010, they spent half of the year in Minnesota and the other half at the Oregon Coast. This arrangement afforded time with Mary’s family and friends in Minnesota and family and West Coast life in Oregon. While Mary and Brian’s life together was short, it was packed full of travel, friends, and family time making wonderful and treasured memories.
