Charles M. Kokes was born in Ord, Nebraska on January 13, 1931, the second of three children to Joseph and Lillian Kokes. During his early years in Atkinson, Nebraska, Chuck attended St Joseph’s Catholic School participating in several activities including basketball, where the team went on to win the state championship. He graduated from Spring Hill College with a degree in business before a two year stint in the Army. Next, Chuck attended and graduated from the University of Nebraska Law School.

Upon completing his law degree, Chuck joined the FBI and moved to the Portland office. There he met the love of his life, Marilyn Beeler, and they were married in 1960. Chuck was transferred to New Orleans where their first two sons, Steve and Mike, were born. In 1965, after a short stay in Jackson, Mississippi, Chuck put his law degree to work moving back to Portland and joining the District Attorney’s office in Multnomah County. Shortly after, their third son, Brian, was born. Chuck spent the next three decades as a prosecuting attorney, retiring in 1997.

Chuck and Marilyn loved to travel, taking trips to London, Paris, Prague, Munich, Australia, Fiji, Tahiti, the Caribbean and of course, Hawaii.

Chuck is survived by Marilyn; and their three sons; his brother, Gary; his sister, Sharon Gaines; as well as four grandchildren, Cameron, Libby, Natalie and Charlie.

His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 13, 2012 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 4112 SW Sixth Avenue Drive, Portland.
