Charles Lowry Obituary

Charles ‘Chuck’ Lowry passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on September 19, 2107 surrounded by family.

The youngest of 10 children born to Henry and Mary Lowry, in Portland Oregon on April 7, 1937, he had the distinction of being the only child in his family to be born in a hospital.

He is survived by his wife Betty, his children, Susan Barbero (Chris), Kim Smith (Sean) and Peter Lowry (Jennie), his grandchildren Cameron, Nick, Ella, Elizabeth, Mia and Sophia, his sister Coletta Gray and numerous nieces and nephews.

Chuck attended Blessed Sacrament School, Jefferson High School and graduated from Portland State University.

He met Betty on a blind date in 1960. They were married in 1961 and remained happily together for 56 years. During that time they raised their family, were active members in their Northeast Portland community, built lasting friendships, traveled, and worked hard. They spent 19 years living between Arizona and Portland and moved back to Portland full time in 2014.

Chuck loved his family above all else. He cherished Betty and loved her to his last breath. He was very proud of his kids and grandkids and made time to spend with each of them often. He especially loved to take the grandkids fishing and was able to participate in a final fishing outing with them in July of this year. Chuck appreciated being from a large family and thoroughly enjoyed the time he spent with his siblings, nephews, and nieces. Over the years, family grew to include his children’s in-laws. Many happy holidays were spent together, with Thanksgiving being particularly special.

Chuck enjoyed football- both as a high school player and later as a CYO Coach for All Saints for 18 years. He had many fond memories of the players, their families and several notable games.

Chuck experienced success in his business career, initially as a CPA, later as a VP for a major insurance company and finally as co-founder of 2 companies with partners Bill Reents and Steve Wesner. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

A Mass to celebrate Chuck’s life will be offered on Saturday October 21 at 11:00am at All Saints Catholic Church, 3847 N.E. Glisan Street, Portland, OR 97232.
