Born in Pendleton to Charles and LaVelle Howell, she was an only child which encouraged her fierce independence throughout life. Growing up in Portland, “Charlie” graduated from Jefferson High School. She traveled the world, was active in golf circles, as well as a longtime club bridge participant and organizer. She has a large group of friends from a well-lived and active life.
She is survived by her sons Timothy (Kathleen) and Terry (Gina), grandchildren Kari (Christopher), Shea (Tina), Gavin (Caroline) Garrett (Aleta), Melanie (Corey), Kendra (Mitchell) and Michael (Lydia) as well as 11 great grandchildren.
For those who would like to celebrate her life, there will be a gathering at the home of Terry and Gina’s, Sunday, January 11th at 3PM at 1131 SW King Avenue, Portland, OR 97205.

I went to Woodlawn Grade School with Charlene. We went from
1st to 8th grade and then Jefferson High School together.
I remember Charlene as a wonderful person. Always friendly
and fun to be with. She was an excellent student. Miss the
lunches we had later in life with Nadine, Barbara and Marily. May she rest in Peace.
