December 14, 1934 ~ November 23, 2021 (age 86)
Corene Serres was born to Thomas and Vera Akerly in Spokane, Wash.
She passed away peacefully in Lake Oswego, from complications of pneumonia. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jim Serres to whom she was married to for almost 60 years. Theirs was a true love story. Both deeply loved by all who knew them. Together, they raised a family to be truly proud of, setting an example of love, faith, forgiveness and adventure. Corene had a life of music, service, and set an example for a life well-lived. She touched the lives of many beyond her family with generosity and compassion, her church community, friends from high school and college, children’s friends, her nieces and nephews, and the many generations of the Serres-Lynch families.
Corene graduated from Marylhurst College and majored in music and education. She was a 5th grade teacher in her early years. In her later years, she played the violin weekly for Alzheimer’s residents at Mary’s Woods. Corene was also very involved with the Maybelle Center in Portland. Her wish was to contribute to and volunteer to those whom face barriers to meaningful connections and basic human needs.
She leaves behind a truly loving family. Daughters, Janet Serres and Janine Jacobs (Glenn); and sons, David Serres (Anita) and Michael Serres (Donna). Corene’s grandchildren had a special place in her heart: Kristine Serres, Jessica Sidhu (George), James Serres (Sharon), Thomas Serres (Leah), Adam Jacobs (Torey), and Sean Jacobs (Brittany). Her greatgrandchildren whom she loved dearly are Lanie Serres, Meah Sidhu, Jackson and Violet Serres.
As a family, we will continue to honor her legacy by living our lives with grace, being compassionate to others and meeting others more than half way. Funeral Services for Corene will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 17, 2021, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 650 A Ave., Lake Oswego, OR 97034.
Reception at the church will be following the funeral Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations to Sisters of the Holy Names would be appreciated, 17590 Gleason Dr., Lake Oswego, OR 97034 or The Maybelle Center for community, 121 N.W. 6th Ave., Portland, OR 97209
