Diane Fehr Obituary

Diane joined our Lord and Savior after passing away from cancer on January 5th in Lake Oswego, OR surrounded by her family. She was the daughter of Dwight and Gladys Sargent, born October 29, 1944 in Portland but spent most of her youth in Ontario, OR. She attended Linfield College after high school. There she was introduced by a mutual friend to the love of her life, Bill. Even as their love grew, he felt the call and enlisted into the Marine Corp during the Vietnam war. During this time she began her career first working at US National Bank, then joined United Air Lines as a stewardess and flew domestically starting in 1966. After Bill returned from Southeast Asia they realized they were meant to be and were married in August of 1968. Due to the airline’s requirement that stewardesses could not be married or have children, she was grounded and worked in United reservations until the birth of her first child Jeffery in Portland, coincidentally in the same hospital where she was born. Kelli was born in Milwaukie and Jason was born in San Jose where the family had moved. Diane loved being a wife and mother.

She helped make every house they lived in a home. She raised their family in Lake Oswego from 1974 until 1992 when Bill took a job in Dallas, Texas, after all her children had graduated from Lake Oswego High School. After 10 years in Texas, they moved back to the northwest and Tigard, OR to be closer to their grandchildren. Another job transfer took Bill and Diane up to Redmond, Washington for another 10 years, however finally settling back in Lake Oswego three years ago.

Through the years, Diane took on many part time jobs. At Christmas time she was the Cinnamon Bear’s helper at a department store downtown, an usher at Memorial Coliseum, selling leather furniture and returning to the air as a flight attendant for Evergreen Airlines. However what brought her the most joy was being there for her husband, her 3 children, and her 8 grandchildren. She spent her free time, golfing, bible studies, and attending every activity of her grandchildren that she could.

Diane was involved for many years in an organization of former United Airlines stewardesses called Clipped Wings, taking on several chapter offices in Portland and Seattle. Supporting Special Olympics events and special needs individuals was especially rewarding along with manning the Sharing Tree at Washington Square in Tigard during the Christmas season.

She loved her Lord and her family and was always ready to help out her friends and family at any time and at any place. Her passion for serving led to a greeting ministry at each church she attended. After her husband’s retirement, she wasted no time in traveling to destinations afar. Cruises to Alaska, through the Panama Canal, and around the Mediterranean to Italy, Greece, Montenegro, Croatia, and Malta. She especially enjoyed the beautiful island of Capri and the city of Sorrento. Visiting family in Germany and touring Bavarian Castles was a highlight. Last year, two weeks were spent in Ireland and another trip sailing with friends in the San Juan Islands. Numerous visits over the years were made to Hawaii where she loved to relax, golf and snorkel.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years Bill, children Jeff (Jovelyn), Kelli Hanson(Eric) and Jason (Jaala) and her 8 grandchildren; Makenna, Jasmin, Vanessa, Ava, Annika, Hana, Landon and Malia. Also brother’s Doug, Fred and sister Linda. She was the best wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and sister that God could have created.

A celebration of her life will be held at Mountain Park Church on January 27th at 1:00. Remembrances can be sent to Young Life Camps, P.O. Box 1111 Lake Oswego, OR 97035 with Honoring Diane Fehr on the memo line or to a charity of your choice.
