February 2, 1927 ~ August 4, 2022 (age 95)
Donald Ray Robertson, son of Orren and Lula Robertson , was born near Hugo, Colorado on February 2, 1927. He grew up in around Fort Morgan, Colorado where his family were farmers. He graduated from Fort Morgan High School, served in the U.S. Army, attended Colorado State University, Fort Collins, Colorado and graduated from the CSU College of Forestry and Range Science. For 35 years he was employed by the U.S. Natural Resources Conservation Service in Colorado, New Mexico, Kansas and the agency’s West Technical Services Center headquartered in Portland, Oregon. He retired in 1984 as Associate Director of that thirteen-state regional office. Following retirement, he did part time work in landscape technology with Portland Community College and throughout the Portland area. He was an active member of the Kairos-Milwaukie United Church of Christ (Congregational).
Don was predeceased by his parents, a brother, two sisters and his wife, Charlene. He is survived by his sister, Marjorie Schnorr of Greeley, Colorado, his first wife Beth of Longmont, Colorado, daughters Karen of Tigard, Oregon and Kay (Gilbert), Albuquerque, New Mexico; sons, Scott (Jovie), Panabo City, The Philippines and Mark (Rosemary), Riverside, California; stepdaughters Vicki DeGraaf (Andy), Langley, Washington, Rebecca Szwaja (Christopher), Valley Village, California, and stepson Gordon Robertson (Julie), Sisters, Oregon. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and step-grandchildren; Denise (Casey), Brian (Sherilyn), Kevin (Sarah), Erin (Jens), Sarah (Jon), Kelly, Kendall (Fran), Reed (Jessica) and Taran; and ten great and step great-grandchildren; Brenna (Eammon), Makayla, Teresa, Henry, Emily, Emma, Charlee, Jonah, Mateo and Claire; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff of Legacy Hospice and Cedar Crest Alzheimer’s Special Care Center for the care and kindness they showed Don in his last months of life.
Remembrances are suggested to the Kairos-Milwaukie United Church of Christ, Portland area mental health organizations, the Alzheimer’s Association of America or The Nature Conservancy.
