Donna Johnson Obituary

Donna went home to her Heavenly Father on Sunday, July 30th. Devoted wife, mother and loved one to family members and friends, she spent her life in service to many and dedication to God.

Born in Fargo, North Dakota, Donna Aigner grew up on the family farm with three brothers, Willis, Donald and Dale. There she learned the values of faith, hard work and cooperation during the depression. Tough times found her family leaving farm life for hopes of prosperity on the west coast during World War II. Her father worked in the shipyards briefly in Los Angeles then settled in Portland as wartime jobs ended.

After graduating from Washington High School, Donna worked for the Veterans Administration in the late 1940’s. There she met a young clerk; Paul Johnson. After he served as a Navy pilot during WWII, Paul was working his way through school in pursuit of dentistry. On July 28, 1950 they were married. She continued to work while he attended dental school. They had three children and enjoyed many years of happy family life.

The Lutheran church was very important for her entire life. Beginning with a close knit community in Minnesota, she served The Lord in many ways. Continued church involvement in Portland was at Bethlehem Lutheran (where Donna and Paul were married), 15 years were spent at St Luke Lutheran and they moved to St Matthew Lutheran in 1970. Choir was a central activity for both Donna and Paul. Together they hosted many warm, joyful church gatherings.

After 46 years of marriage, Paul passed away in 1996. Donna remained active at St Matthew, singing in choir and participating in many activities. She continued to enjoy years of family gatherings as well and always included many, many friends. Her door was always open for love and support for her entire family, friends and neighbors. Travel to Europe and a church mission to Africa also filled a rich part of her life history. She also devoted one day each week, volunteering at Providence St Vincent Hospital.

Donna is survived by her three children; Rick, Christy (Gary) and Kevin (Becky) and seven grandchildren; Bryan, Karolyn, Bryant, Tyler, Matthew, Alaina and Robert.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., September 23, 2017 at St Matthew Lutheran Church, 10390 SW Canyon Rd, Beaverton, OR 97005.
