Dora was a lifelong resident of Portland. She attended Vernon Grade School, Jefferson High School, and Lewis & Clark College. She obtained a Master of Music degree from the University of Portland. She married George A. Haslett, Jr. on January 20, 1952, in Portland, Oregon. They had two children together. They divorced in 1969.
Dora was a concert pianist, teacher, and substitute organist. After receiving her B.A. and Master’s degrees, she taught piano as a member of the faculty at Lewis & Clark College, The University of Portland, Warner Pacific College, Marylhurst University, and Portland State University. She did advanced studies in Aspen, Colorado, studying piano with Grant Johannesen, and the Teachers Workshop with Adele Marcus. She spent a summer session studying 20th century music with Johannesen at Stanford and additional advanced study with legendary pianist, Karl Ulrich Schnabel. Dora was instrumental in bringing Mr. Schnabel to Portland as a teacher and performer. She was also his teaching assistant. She performed at the Rockefeller Institute, Bellagio Center in Lake Como, Italy, and played solo and chamber recitals in Oregon and the Caribbean.
Dora had many dear friends, friendships that lasted a lifetime; even playing at both weddings and funerals for those dear friends. She enjoyed traveling and spent time traveling to Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean, throughout the Western U.S., and across Europe. She was particularly fond of Greece, Italy, and France.
Dora was a member of the Oregon Music Teachers Association, Mu Phi Epsilon Pacific Northwest Province. She also belonged to Beaux Arts and many other musical organizations and groups. She was Queen of Bethel with the Jobs Daughters in high school.
Dora is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan & Rob Tinner, her son Ronald, from Redondo Beach, California, and her grandson, Tye Tinner. She is further survived by numerous cousins, relatives, and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her ex-husband, George, and Emma Moore, who was like a second mother to her.

Dora was so special to me as a friend and sister-in-law. I appreciated her endless musical talent and willingness to share it with others. My thoughts are with Susan, Rob,
Tye and Ron.
With love, Aunt Patti
I was so fortunate to attend Dora’s concert last year with my mom Barbara, Dora’s lifelong friend. A few months later my family and I were blessed to have Dora play at moms service. I know they are reunited once again.
