Growing up she lived in Eugene, Spokane and Portland, graduating from Commerce High School in 1941. She married Richard Jack Schafer on March 27, 1943. Together she and Dick raised their three children, Loralee, Susan and Rick on Primrose Street in Southwest Portland.

She loved playing bridge in their close-knit community and vacationing in Hawaii. Dick, a traveling coffee salesman, passed away in 1975. In 1977, Doris married noted photographer, Ray Atkeson. Together they enjoyed traveling the Pacific Northwest.

With a lifetime love of the Oregon coast, she especially treasured their time at the beach with her dear friend, Betty Haney.

She will be welcomed by those whom she loved the most and will be greatly missed by those who knew her here.

Memorial services will be held at Riverview Abbey on June 21, 2012 at 10 a.m.

Remembrances, in lieu of flowers, may be sent to the Oregon Humane Society.
