Dr. Everett Sorensen Obituary

Dr. Everett Allington Sorensen, who practiced medicine for 40 years in the Portland area, died Nov. 21, at his Portland home. He was 95.

Known for his quick wit and meticulous work, Everett – affectionately known as “Doc” – was born Aug. 25, 1916, to Samuel A. and Grace (Harris) Sorensen in Killam, Alberta. He earned degrees from Seattle Pacific University and in 1946 from the University of Oregon Medical School, now OHSU.

He served as a captain in the U.S. Army Air Forces. At Physicians and Surgeons Hospital, he was head of the medical staff and chair of the board. At Holladay Park Hospital, he served on the hospital and foundation boards. He also practiced at Good Samaritan, St. Vincent and Tuality hospitals, was a charter board member of the HealthLink hospital system, and helped establish Meridian Park Hospital in Tualatin. Everett was a general practitioner physician and surgeon and practiced at Tualatin Valley Clinic in Beaverton for 36 years. He often gave faith-based counsel to patients in times of personal crisis.

He married Harriet Walk in Seattle on Jan. 16, 1943. They had three children and were married for 42 years when Harriet died in March 1985. Everett married Rose Iwasaki, his clinic nurse for 30 years, in Portland on May 22, 1989.

He and Rose were active at Sunset Presbyterian Church in Portland, where Everett served as stewardship chair. He coached youth hockey, played golf, enjoyed fishing, piloted his own plane, and did woodworking and oil paintings. He was charter president of the Beaverton Lions Club. He and Rose often traveled to Hawaii and Europe. Although he did not initially enjoy exercising in retirement, he later became hooked.
