October 7, 1948 ~ February 8, 2021 (age 72)
Family and friends are mourning the loss of Eddie Osborn, who passed away unexpectedly February 8, 2021, in his hometown of Portland. He was 72 years young.
Eddie’s former colleagues at Oregon Catholic Press will miss his friendship and fellowship, as well as his dedication during his more than 34-year career as manager of the prepress department. His passing is also a great loss to his softball family, a community that was very dear to his heart. For over 45 years, Eddie participated in every aspect of the sport and local leagues, as a player, coach, manager, board member, official photographer for national tournaments, and eventually as president of the Portland Metro Softball Association / USA organization.
Eddie is preceded in death by his son, Eddie Osborn, parents Edgar and Juel Osborn, and older brother Gary Osborn. He leaves behind his younger brother Jack (Kathleen) Osborn, his remaining children: Kay (Darren) Blanton, Sara (John) Kramer, Kevin Osborn, and their mother Joanne Osborn. Eddie is also survived by grandchildren Harlen Blanton, Elizabeth Blanton, Brenden Ginn, and Juel Osborn; nine great-grandchildren; his life partner Lianne Swanson; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Eddie’s legacy also extends to his family of choice: ‘brothers’ Mike Koglin and Bob Koglin, symbolically ‘adopted children’ Skydrea McKenzie, Michele Hammond and Roberta Trahan, and countless friends, colleagues, and loved ones.
Eddie will be remembered by all who knew him for his love of life, photography, music (especially his undying devotion to The Rolling Stones), nature, softball, and every person he drew close to him with his kindness, compassion, sense of humor and welcoming personality. A celebration of life will be held at a future date. In the meantime, the family asks that memorial donations be made in Eddie’s name to one or both the American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.org) and/or PMSA Komen Youth Tournament (https://www.portlandsoftball.com/home).
You can still show your support by sending flowers directly to the family, or by planting a memorial tree in the memory of Eddie Allen Osborn

Your presence in my life, your friendship, your teasing, your caring were all blessings to me. No one will ever fill that Eddie shaped hole. Thank you for being you. I hope you’re having a grand time in the Summerland.

Eddie was a dear friend and wonderful to work with at Oregon Catholic Press. His talent and support to me as editor of El Centinela newspaper will be remembered forever with my eternal gratitude.
I had no clue when I signed up to play softball with Eddie’s Co-ed team, Tumblin’ Dice, how important it would be in my life for those few Portland summers. It wasn’t something we talked about but I was, well — lost, swimming in the abyss, trying to figure out my future and Eddie, his personality, compassion and heart, were no small part of me coming through that time. He just always himself, and it was always enough. Â
I never got the chance to say it Eddie, but I thank you for being more than my coach. More than a softball friend.  You were a heart and soul that touched me and so many others over the years. I will remember those co-ed doubleheaders, the tournaments and the “Eddie glare” with nothing but love, respect and fondness. The loss is great, but the love is greater. “You got to ro-oo-ooll me and call me the tumblin’ dice.”Â
Thank you sir.
Nick
