Edward Ericksen Obituary

Ed was a proud Norwegian who lived a modest, generous and industrious life. He was the youngest of nine siblings, born to Norwegian immigrants in Astoria, on March 18, 1917.

He graduated from Astoria High School in 1935 and then earned his degree in accounting from the University of Washington. He was a Certified Public Accountant and served in the Navy on the U.S.S. Bennett, a Fletcher class destroyer, as the supply officer. He was the director of long range planning for Lamb/Weston, which eventually became part of ConAgra.

He was an avid golfer and member of the Tualatin Country Club. He was an active member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church where at one time he served as president of the congregation.

Ed started writing to his schoolmate from high school, Dorothy Hutchens, while he was in the Navy, and on June 9, 1944, they married. He was a family man and spent most of his married life with Dorothy at their home in Portland. Together, they raised three children: Craig, Susan and Sally. Craig died tragically in a boating accident at age 16. Ed was a handyman and kept their house in pristine condition. He enjoyed gardening, especially rhododendrons, roses and raspberries. He spent a lot of time in Seaside, where his brother had built a house near the beach, and taught all of his grandchildren how to fish and dig for clams. He and Dorothy were happily married for 63 ? years until she died from Alzheimer’s on January 12, 2008, while they were living at Hearthstone at Murray Hill.

He is survived by his daughters, Sally Wilson and Susan (Wayne) Lucke; four grandchildren, Ann (Eric) Ottesen, Ryan (Suzanne) Lucke, Jesse Wilson and Cody Wilson; and great-grandchildren, Tanner Wilson and Bjorn Ottesen.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 17, 2013, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 10390 S.W. Canyon Road, Beaverton, Oregon 97005.
