December 28, 1920 ~ February 20, 2017 (age 96)
Ed grew up in Dearborn, Michigan. After high school he attended one year at University of Michigan, majoring in Engineering. He then enlisted in the United States Navy until his honorable discharge in December of 1945. He returned to college on the GI Bill to complete his degree, which he changed to Forestry. He relocated to the Northwest in 1946. He worked for Willamette Industries in accounting, until his retirement in 1984.
Ed married Doris Margaret Watson in 1953 in Portland, OR. They were happily married for nearly 62 years. Ed was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church, Happy Hikers, and a Cross County Skiing group. He enjoyed reading and following the adventures of his grandchildren and great grandchildren on Facebook.
Ed is survived by his son, Brian Reid and his wife Merle Reid; his daughter, Donna McKenzie, his grandchildren Megan and Caitlin McKenzie, Emma Lee Reid, and Laura Reid Toops and her husband Jason Toops; his great-grandchildren Shelby White and William and Maggie Toops.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Doris, who passed away in 2015.
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 1200 SW Alder Street Portland, OR 97205 at 11:00am on March 13th. The family will be greeting friends and relatives following the service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Menucha Retreat and Conference Center at PO Box 8, Corbett OR 97019-0008. Condolences may be left on Riverview Abbey Funeral Home’s online guest book at http://www.riverviewabbey.com/.

I just now learned about Ed’s death. He and I worked together at Willamette for many years. I always admired Ed – his strong work ethic, his strong moral compass and his gentle nature. All who knew him like him. He was truly a good man. Good bye my friend.
