Ellen Benson Obituary

Ellen (Ellie) Handy Benson passed away on April 19, 2016 in Portland, Oregon.

Born in Logan, Utah on July 12, 1954, she was the first child of William Grant Handy (deceased) and Roselyn Raleigh Handy.

She was the oldest sister to Margaret Handy Martin, Laura Handy Hammond, and Thomas William Handy.

A graduate of Lake Oswego High School, Ellie attended the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon, where she excelled at literature and poetry.

It was there that she met and married her first husband, Robert Calvin Darby.

They have two lovely daughters Rozalind Schlatter, and Amber Darby.

Later she returned to Portland to marry Charlie Benson and have their son, Courteland Benson.

Ellen is survived by her children Rozalind Schlatter, Amber Darby and Courteland Benson (Cieara Butchek); and her grandchilden Robert Schlatter, Adam Schlatter and Tahlia Schlatter, Kylie Benson and Cailyn Benson.

Ellen joins her first grandson Calvin in heaven.

A Celebration of Life service is planned for Sunday, May 1, 2016 at the Sharon Seven Day Adventist Church 5237 NE 21st Avenue, Portland, OR 97211, at 1:00 p.m.
