Mr. Bergquist was born July 7, 1923, in Waubun, Minn. He came to Portland in 1942, and worked as a skilled carpenter. He served in India and Burma during WWII in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Roy graduated from the University of Portland and did his graduate work at the University of Pittsburgh. After the war, he worked for Western Auto before returning to the work he loved, accounting. He worked for Georgia-Pacific for 20 years as a chief accountant and controller.

After retirement, he spent six years at the University of Portland as their treasurer and controller. He helped lead hikes for the Portland Parks & Recreation bureau for several years. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Milwaukie and was a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.

He married Peggy Connor in 1947, and had four children, Timothy (Lesley), Kathleen (Mike Devenney), Michael (Jennifer) and Brian; grandchildren, John (Andrea Jensen), Jeff (Beka), Matthew and Andrew; and great-grandchild, Connor Bergquist.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that remembrances be made to the St. John Catholic Community Foundation. The funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, October 18, 2014, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 10955 S.E. 25th Avenue, Milwaukie, OR 97222.
