December 22, 1933 ~ June 14, 2023 (age 89)
Elsie Masae Onishi was born on December 22, 1933 and peacefully went to heaven on June 14, 2023. She was 89 years old.
Elsie was known for her kindness, unconditional love and her forgiving heart. She was caring, generous and sweet.
Elsie attended Shattuck Elementary School, Japanese School and Lincoln High School.
When she was 9 years old, she was sent to the Minidoka Relocation Center in Hunt, Idaho during World War II. She spent 3rd-7th grade there.
Elsie was a caregiver through and through, taking care of many family and friends. After attending Oregon State University and graduating from the University of Oregon Medical School of Nursing she became a registered nurse. She worked at Providence Hospital, Woodland Park Hospital and various clinics.
Elsie loved her family and friends above all, especially her grandchildren and great-grand childen. They were the joy of her life. She and her husband Harold, who were happily married for 58 years, went to all their activities, concerts, dance recitals, etc. They loved spending time with all of us. We would celebrate most holidays, birthdays and New Year’s Good Luck Soup with them.
Elsie loved going to all the family events, out with her friends and family, to the symphony, ballet and the theatre. She loved to travel and go to the beach, mountains, Multnomah Falls and Bonneville Dam for a picnic. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, mushroom hunting, fishing, cooking, and playing piano. She loved music.
Elsie was a Christian and attended Epworth United Methodist Church.
Elsie will be missed immensely. She is survived by her daughter, Marita Bay and her husband Rick;; Her son, Jon Onishi and his wife Juliette Stoering. Grandchildren: Matt, Erik, Scott, Marie, Anna, Brielle, Teddi, Alison. Great-Grandchildren: Jared, Nolan, Kaisa, Henry, Amelie, Maya, Kei..
It was Elsie’s wish to not have a service or Celebration of Life. If you would like to celebrate her, we would appreciate it if you would share a story or memory about her on the tribute wall of this obituary. You may also share a memory privately by sending an email to bayband@gmail.com. We will share your memories with our family.
