June 28, 1918 ~ April 22, 2012 (age 93)
Ethel was born on June 28, 1918 in Butte, Montana to Laura E. Lilly-LaPash and William H. LaPash. She spent her early years in Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Washington State and Oregon and graduated from high school in Elmira, Oregon in 1935.
She worked as a bookkeeper and secretary prior to and during the early years of her marriage to Donald H. Dirr, which was on June 29, 1940 in Portland.
Ethel gave up the corporate world after World War II when Donald was discharged from the military and they returned to Portland. She stayed at home and raised two sons beginning in 1947 and was very active in all their school activities, sports, church groups and cub and boy scouts. She was involved in other outside volunteer activities during this time as well in the Portland area.
She and her husband enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S., Canada, Alaska, Europe and the Mediterranian after their retirement. Donald passed away in 1988 and Ethel continued to travel to other countries including China and Australia up until the mid 1990s.
She loved her flowers and small furry things. One of her most endearing qualities was her ability to laugh at herself. Everyone loved her and she has survived a lot of dear friends.
She is survived by two sons and their wives, John and Pat Dirr of Walla Walla, Wash. and Mark and Darlene Dirr of Klamath Falls; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also still living is her sister, Dolores and her husband, Paul and their two children; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren.
Ethel was a past member of Calvin Presbyterian Church of Tigard.
Her final resting place is Riverview Abbey in Portland alongside her husband Donald.
At her request, no service was held.
