1928 ~ 2024 (age 95)
Father John Brouillard 95
October 18, 1928, Argyle, Minnesota ~ May 23, 2024, Beaverton, Oregon
Father John Brouillard passed away on Thursday, May 23rd, 2024, under the care of Maryville Memory Care Home in Beaverton, OR, where he had lived for the last few years. Smiling, peaceful, and pleasant, Father was loved by all at Maryville. Well into his 90’s, Fr. Brouillard generally offered few, if any, complaints. He expressed contentment and was in relatively good physical health. He had just lately begun to use a walker or a wheelchair at times.
Fr. Brouillard was blessed with a special niece and goddaughter who lived nearby. She ensured he had all he needed and visited as often as was possible and reasonable for his routine. During the COVID-19 period visits and outings fluctuated some in observance of health protocols and Fathers varying strength and stamina. He enjoyed celebratory birthday dinners and outings shared with his family.
Father also maintained contact with one of his oldest friends, a classmate from Central Catholic High School, who graduated with him in the 1940’s and also attended seminary with him for a time. This friend kept in touch by calling and visiting whenever possible, even if only by standing outside the window and talking on the phone. Father is also much remembered by his friends among the senor priests, especially those at St. John Vianney and Bishops Emeritus.
Father Brouillard long enjoyed attending daily Mass at Maryville, where he was able to wear his stole and concelebrate his from his seat.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at 10:00 A.M. Father will be laid to rest in Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Portland.

Fr. B was a treasured part of our family. He was a frequent visitor for dinner along with his mother. HIs niece lived with us for a few years and was a big sister to me and my sibs (thank you Suzy). He was a mentor for me in my young years and gave advice I still am very appreciative of. He and my parents formed a close relationship and I remember many evening listening in to fun as well as serious conversations in our living room. I regret losing touch with him but thought of him often. He is missed.
I remember when father and some of the Mom’s would all go ice skating at the LLoyd center. He was a good egg and a wonderful person& priest.

Father B. was a much loved and treasured addition to the Ferguson family. His faith and wisdom were so cherished. He is greatly missed.
I remember Fr. Brouillard at the Madeleine when I was attending school there back in the ’60’s. Although I didn’t really know him well, I recall him as a kind and caring priest.
I remember that Father John was a good athlete. When it snowed enough and we could sled on Franklin Court hill in NW Portland he would bring his skis and ski down the hill will perfect form. He also organized things so the kids had to walk back up the hill on the sidewalk instead of in the middle of the road. He was such a great guy and fun to be around.
Father B was a stud. Alter Boy picnics at Janeen Beach, confirmation… He married Ann & Me. He would eat creamed peas or creamed corn and fish sticks , every other week at our house on Franklin Court… and he never even complained . He concelabrated at my younger brother Tim’s funeral. What other vocation could affect so many people in a positive way.
Thank You Father John.
Thank you, Fr. Bull-yard ( as my parents called him in jest) for being our close family priest. Often a guest at our dinner table, he and his mother shared wonderful stories and celebrated many family occasions. Weddings, funerals and Sunday picnics. He has always had a special place in the Wehrley household and I’m grateful he graced us with his life. Peace, Father â¤ï¸
It is with true sadness seeing that Fr. B has passed. He was a powerful figure of my youth and life long family friend. From my grade school years at Madeline Catholic School, to celebrating our Marriage, to burying my folks, he was there. He is loved and missed already.

Father Brouilard was quite a priest..
He spent a jam packed four years at St Peters in SE Portland and became my husband’s favorite priest. Father would walk down the aisle to the song “Battle Hymn of the Republic”
My husband Joe is gone now and waiting for his favorite priest.
Sue, you were always so good to him and you were an exceptional caretaker in his later years. He spoke of you with such appreciation while he was still able bodied, and was deeply appreciative of all you did for him as he needed more help. God bless you for your kindness to him.
Father John Brouillard was a parish priest when I attended Madeleine Grade School. He was a kind, gentle man and I thought he was hunk.
