June 11, 1922 ~ February 3, 2013 (age 90)
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. at the Charbonneau Country Club, Wilsonville, March 2, 2013. Attendees are asked to honor Dot’s sense of color coordination by wearing something blue, purple or pink.
Dot was born June 11, 1922 and raised in Portland and attended Washington High School and the University of Oregon. Prior to her marriage, she worked as a dental assistant, for United Air Lines and sold real estate. Frances pursued a variety of volunteer activities beginning as a Candy Striper and continuing as a scout leader, PTA and YWCA officer, precinct committeewoman and fund-raiser.
After her son had a spinal cord injury she helped found the Oregon Trail Paraplegia Foundation in 1975 which became the Oregon Chapter of the National Spinal Cord Injury Association (NSCIA). Dot served as the Executive Director of that group until 1985. She served as a vocal advocate for people with disabilities, often serving as board member for non-profit organizations including several terms with the NSCIA. She was honored with a Carnation Oregon Service Award and the prestigious T.J. Nugent Service Award from the NSCIA.
Dot was an avid birdwatcher, equestrian, golfer, skier, fisherman, graceful swimmer and skilled bridge player. She loved spending time at the family cabin on Mt. Hood and traveled extensively through six continents.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, David Hansen, in 2006.
