August 8, 1931 ~ December 8, 2014 (age 83)
Born to Gerald C. “Casey” Case and Janette Newbury Case in Des Moines, Iowa in August 1931, Gary grew up helping his father with Casey’s Bait & Tackle Shop. Gary loved planes and joined the Air Force after graduating High School in Des Moines. He had a distinguished career in the Air Force, including carrying top secret mission papers nightly while stationed in Vietnam.
After retiring from the Air Force, Gary settled in Klamath Falls, Oregon and developed quite a reputation for not only tending to plants but wildlife. On any given evening, there were always at least a couple of deer eating the birdseed out of Gary’s bird feeders in the backyard.
Gary continued to love fishing right to the very end, although it seemed most of the time all he caught was rocks.
Of all of the things Gary was proud of (besides his daughters), he once was heard to quip that he was really proud that at 83 he still had all of his own teeth!
Iowa lost a number one son and he will be sorely missed by his daughters, Laurie Smith and Patti McIlhagga.
If you knew Gary, please sign the registry with Riverview Abbey and share your stories with his daughters. They would love to hear from you.
