September 2, 1926 ~ March 3, 2022 (age 95)
Gertrude “Marcille” Shepherd was born September 2, 1926, in Portland Oregon, and graduated in 1943 from Tigard High School. She lived several places over the years; Tualatin, Oregon, where she and her first husband owned the grocery store Tualatin Variety & Grocery for many years, and in Hammond, Oregon where she worked as a teller at a local bank in Astoria. She also spent time in Sherwood and Tigard, Oregon as well as Vancouver, Washington before returning to live in Portland. Most of her career life was in direct sales and she was one heck of a bookkeeper.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Gertrude Barry and Peter Hoffman, by her first beloved husband, George T. Summers, with whom she was married for 42 years, and her two sons, Ronald and Steven Summers. She is survived by her beloved current husband, Robert L. Shepherd, her two daughters, Marilyn Norris and Mary Keliikoa, her two sons-in-law, Lonnie Norris and Robert Keliikoa, two stepsons, Shaun and David Shepherd, five step-grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Marcille lived a full life. She learned to ballroom dance at 70. She travelled widely and could boast having visited Antarctica, Washington D.C., the Caribbean, Tahiti, Mexico, Hawaii, and Alaska, along with various local locations. She was always off on some cruise or some adventure, not being one to stay home for long. While in her 80s, she joined a senior singing group (The Marshallaires Community Choir) that sang at retirement homes. She played Bunco twice a month and gambled every chance she got. And at 85, she married Robert L. Shepherd, the last love of her life.
Marcille was a woman who had the ability to reinvent herself—she never stopped moving, living or creating. She will forever be loved and missed.
A chapel service will be held for Marcille at 11 AM on 3/22/22 at Riverview Abbey, 319 S Taylors Ferry Rd, Portland OR 97219
