Gladys Montayon Obituary

Gladys Regina Montavon, 89, passed away June 2, 2014. She was born August 19, 1924, in DeKalb, Ill., and was raised as one of 11 siblings.

In 1957, Gladys moved West to Portland where she made her home and lived the rest of her life near her adoptive family, the Knox’s. A devoted mother to Kevin, they were enthusiastic Portland Trail Blazers fans and held season tickets for many years. Her love of travel took her all throughout Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia, as well as the U.S. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards and Bunco with friends.

After working for Gillespie Decals as an office manager for nearly 30 years, Gladys retired in 1987.

She was preceded in death by her son, Kevin; parents, William and Margaret; brothers, Francis and Robert; sisters, Bernice, Florence and Marian; Will and Charlotte Knox.

She is survived by her grandchildren, MacGregor and Gillian; sisters, Carol, Edith, Elaine, Shirley and Yonne; Anni and Arn Zirk and family; and Mark and Carmen Knox and family; as well as numerous extended family members and friends.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at St. Clare Catholic Church, 8535 S.W. 19th Avenue, Portland.

In lieu of flowers, family suggests remembrances to St. Clare’s.
