April 30, 1927 ~ June 17, 2014 (age 87)
Guy was a native Oregonian and longtime resident of Lake Oswego. He passed away peacefully at The Pearl in Lake Oswego.
He graduated from Jefferson High School and served in the U.S. Navy from 1945-1946. In 1950, he graduated from the University of Washington and married his lifelong partner of 64 years, Anna R. Makus. Guy’s life revolved around family, work and his community. He worked at Far West Federal Bank, previously Portland Federal Savings, for 35 years. The organization was founded by his father, Guy E. Jaques Sr. in 1934. He served as president for 20 years from 1965-1985. Guy always cherished the friendships he made with everyone and everything associated with the Bank. It was a very special time in his life.
He also served in many leadership roles with numerous trade and civic organizations such as the U.S. Savings and Loan League, the YMCA, United Way, The Boy Scouts of America, Associated Oregon Industries, Association of Portland Progress, Portland Chamber of Commerce, Portland Art Association and The Federal Home Loan Bank of Seattle. Guy accumulated many lifelong friendships through his involvement with Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, Young Presidents’ Organization, Arlington Club, Multnomah Athletic Club, Waverley Country Club and others.
He loved the outdoors, ski trips, tennis, wine and gardening. He was the master of the “Cut Shot,” not pretty…. but effective. But, he loved his family most of all. He parented and grand parented, by example. He was kind, thoughtful, intelligent, caring and honest and he will be missed.
He is survived by his lovely wife, Anna; sons, Mark (Mary Jo) and Neil (Peggy); daughter, Nan (Bryan) Hall; grandchildren, Katrina, Tyler, Kirby, Lauren, Brooke and Britta; along with, four great- grandchildren.
A private celebration of his life will take place later this summer. The family would suggest that any remembrance go to the Alzheimer’s Association Oregon Chapter. A very special thanks to the loving staff at The Pearl Memory Care.
