Helen Scallon Obituary

Helen Marie Scallon’s life will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Parish in Ackley, Iowa on September 19. 2015, at 10:30 and at All Saints Parish at 2:00 on October 3, 2015.

Helen graduated from Iowa State Teacher’s College and the University of Iowa. She taught in Wiota, Monticello, Cherokee, Fort Dodge and Mason City, Iowa; Erlangen Us Army School in Germany; and Salem and Portland, Oregon. She was a reading specialist in the Portland Public School system for the last years of her career. She was active in her church and at the St. Vincent de Paul society.

She is survived by her sister Teresa Scallon Newburn and brothers Jack, Vince, and Gene Scallon, as well as 32 nieces and nephews and numerous grand and great grand nieces and nephews.

Memorial gifts may be sent to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, 5120 SE Milwaukie Avenue, Portland, OR 97202.
