James McNassar Obituary

McNassar, James Peter Sr. 82 (April 24,1942 – November 26, 2024) Jim was born in Burlington, Iowa. He was the fourth child of eleven children, and born to John Leo McNassar Sr, and Mary Katharine (Dehner) McNassar.

During his childhood, he moved with his family to Denver Colorado and Cheyenne, Wyoming. In 1954, they moved to Portland, Oregon. His family lived in Southeast Portland where they were members of St. Philip Neri Parish for many years. He attended St. Philip Neri Catholic School, Central Catholic and Cleveland High school in Portland.

In 1963, Jim married Jeanne (Henningsen); the love of his life. They were a great team, and they loved each other beyond words. They had six children, 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Their family started with twins, Shannon and Colleen. Shortly thereafter, came Molly, James, Michael, and John.

Jim and Jeanne made Easter, Christmas and all family celebrations special, and friends were always welcomed as family. They enjoyed spending time with family and friends in Manzanita on the Oregon Coast, on Mt. Hood, and on the Kona Coast of Hawaii.

Jim worked hard, and valued a job well done. He worked in the ready-mix concrete industry for 46 years, until his retirement in 2006. He operated Rose City Sand and Gravel, then purchased Dick’s Concrete in Milwaukie, Oregon. He moved his business to Clackamas in 1990, built a new plant, and renamed his company to Concrete Services Inc.(CSI). He then acquired, owned and operated two more plants in Estacada and Sandy. His wife Jeanne and four of his six children worked at the company.

In 2022, Jim moved to Mary’s Woods and was warmly welcomed into the community. He enjoyed spending time with new friends, as well several childhood friends from grade school and high school. Jim loved to have long, detailed conversations about the history of Portland, and catching up with family and friends. We will always miss his sparkling blue eyes, charming smile and clever sense of humor.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife Jeanne, his parents; sisters, Ann Zenner (Walt); Sister Mary McNassar, SNJM; Alice McNassar and brothers, John(Susie) and Patrick (Mufti); son-in-law Rollie Caster, brother-in-law, Thomas Newman.

Jim is survived by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren: Shannon (Paul) Patrick (Molly) Fiona, Ryan (Lindsay) Everett, Colleen (Wayne) Katie, Jamie, Molly, Sean and Michael, Jim (Jenny) Paul, Leah, Michael (Janie) Colleen (Neil) Drew, John (Tagone) Jennifer (Josh) Rylee, Luke, Brenden, Kirsten(Elijah) his sisters, Maureen Zehendner (S. Michael), Jeanne McNassar (Joseph Digman), Kathleen Stewart (Randall); and brothers, Thomas (Jane) and Michael (Heather) and 63 nieces and nephews.

Thank you for everything you and grandma did for all of us, grandpa. We love you so much and will miss you forever. Love, Katie Jeanne.

Katie, Your Grandpa was a true gem, a wonderful father, brother, husband, grandfather & uncle! I loved him, he personified the term “Fun-cle”! My growing up years were made memorable with so many treasured memories of time spent with him & Jeanne, especially the many times we were all at the Mountain House, where as kids, we were all able to create so many incredible lasting memories together with all the cousins, our parents & of course, Gommie & Pappa ❤️

I will love and miss you forever ♥️
I’m at peace knowing you are reunited with mom in heaven ♥️
Merry Christmas to you both.
Colleen
