Jane Kinnaman MacNeill was born November 15th, 1944. The second daughter of Fred and Ruth Greenwood, Jane was adventurous and curious from the start. Following her father around on his chicken ranch or learning lessons from her schoolteacher mother, Jane was always hungry for more knowledge. After graduating as valedictorian from her high school, Jane attended Washington State University to study Criminal Science. She played basketball during college, and even lived abroad, studying in Sweden for a year – making lifelong friends and learning Swedish in the process!

After college, she worked briefly at Lerner’s clothing store, before getting a job with Washington County Sheriff’s Office as one of the FIRST female police officers hired in the state of Oregon. While in the police academy, she met the dashing David R. Kinnaman, and they married on February 8th, 1969.

Jane and Dave had two lovely daughters, Eve and Anne.  Dave rose through the ranks at Portland Police, while Jane pursued further careers that could utilize her investigative prowess. As an investigator for the Civil Rights unit of BOLI, Jane was outsized in her success and skill. She was awarded innumerable times for her work.

In her retirement, Jane continued to work on complex home projects, interior design, and the like. One of her favorite all time magazines was Handyman Monthly, and she was enviable in her power-tool abilities!

She also loved the Oregon Coast and spent as much time as possible entertaining family and friends at her beachfront condo; taking in the serenity of coastal life.

Jane also ardently played bridge with multiple groups: for fun, conversation, and intellectual stimulation. It has to be said; Jane had so many friends, it was nearly impossible to keep count. This is due to her unwavering loyalty, intelligence, humor, and compassion to friends and family alike. Her love for her family was fierce and abundant and we are all reeling so much from her loss.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband, David R. Kinnaman. She is succeeded by her sister Betty Greenwood, her two daughters, Eve Broaddus and Anne Kinnaman, as well as her grandchildren, Sophia Sanchez and Jaxon Sanchez.

We will never stop missing Jane; she has been the anchor and the compass for so many over her life, and we will always be thankful for that.
