Jeanette John Obituary

Jeanette was born July 8, 1925, to Frank and Chris-tiena Valleur. Her siblings were her older brother, Jack, and Renee. She grew up near Chehalis, Washington, on their family farm and learned her strong core values, hard work and community.

During WWII, Jeanette moved to Portland, where she worked as a welder for the Kaiser Shipyards. After WWII, Jeanette met Daniel John, a U.S. Navy veteran, and they married. They lived together for nearly 50 years until he passed away in 1995. She will be laid to rest with him in Willamette National Cemetery.

Jeanette enjoyed traveling, gardening, reading and entertaining with family and friends. She enjoyed working at Portland public schools until retiring.

She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Bennett and grandson, John Hillesland; son, Robert John and his wife, Nancy; and sister, Renee Donohue and family.

A memorial service and reception will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Riverview Abbey Funeral Home, www.riverviewabbey.com.
