August 2, 1918 ~ January 24, 2012 (age 93)
Joan S. Stewart, 93 was born August 02, 1918. Joan passed away at Mary’s Woods, January 24, 2012.
She grew up in Maplewood, New Jersey, and attended Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York.
Joan married Roger Stewart on March 24, 1942 at Fort Lewis, Washington. They lived in Verona, New Jersey, and Bellevue, Washington, before moving to Lake Oswego in 1965. They moved into Mary’s Woods in 2000.
Joan was preceded in death by Roger, being married 64 years. She is survived by her children, Nancy and Jim (Penny) Stewart; grandchildren, Brian (Finley) and Debbie Weatherford, Karri and Katie Stewart; great-grandchildren, Sarah and Kyle Weatherford, Riley and Peyton Johnson.
Joan was a true inspiration to all and was loved by everyone she met. Her spirit, smile and joy in helping others will be missed. Being outside brought her great joy – gardening, golf, tennis, cross-country skiing and of course, walking. Most days she could be seen walking around Mary’s Woods. She was an artist too, painting lovely watercolors. Above all, she loved her family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, being playful and funny, laughing together and giving and receiving hugs and kisses from all.
A memorial service will be held on February 10, 2012 at 2 p.m. in the chapel at Mary’s Woods in Lake Oswego.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to your favorite charity.
