John Wardin Obituary

Mr. John Klemm Wardin died January 4, 2021 at age 87.

He was born November 15, 1933 in Portland and grew up in Hillsdale. John attended Multnomah Grade School, and Benson High School. He took automotive training at Multnomah College and served eight years in the Oregon National Guard.

Mr. Wardin was a man of few words, but was always diligent in his work. In his early years, he worked at Fulton Park Dairy, founded by his grandfather Gustav Wardin and later owned by his father Albert Wardin.

John was an accomplished auto mechanic. With his brother Ferd Wardin he enjoyed drag racing. Mr. Wardin once said, “I won many races, but lost very few”.

He and his brother Ferd Wardin were partners in many real estate investments, and they purchased the Gateway Ford Dealership in Newberg Oregon in 1975. That dealership is now known as Newberg Ford.

He was a regular attendee of Southwest Bible Church in Beaverton Oregon and very much enjoyed a small group Bible study for 16 years. While Mr. Wardin did not consider himself a trained speaker, he believed he was given the ability to make money, in order to help others, and support church building projects.

Mr. Wardin married Ila Jean Pike in 1965. Survivors are his wife, his daughter Karen L. Chaddock of Stockton California, his son Daniel J. Wardin of Newberg Oregon, his older brother Albert W. Wardin of Nashville, his older sister Doris Lemley of Vashon Washington and his younger sister Ardys Braidwood of Portland; 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

A private interment in Riverview Abbey Mausoleum was attended by Mr. Wardin’s family and by his longtime friend Mike Jones. A life celebration will be held at Riverview Abbey in August. Remembrances: SW Bible Church, Western Conservative Baptist Theological Seminary. Arrangements: Riverview Abbey Funeral Home.
