John Keller Obituary

John passed away peacefully at his home Dec. 9, 2019. John was born in Portland to William and Frances Keller, the second of seven siblings. He attended St. Agatha grade school, La Salle High School and then graduated from the University of Portland in 1976. He went on to complete law school at Lewis & Clark College. While at the University of Portland, he met Delphine Pope and they married in 1977. A third-generation attorney, John began practicing law with his father Bill at Keller & Keller, P.C. in 1979 and would later be joined in the practice by his son David.

John was quite well known for his generosity, affection for family and friends and love of sports and the outdoors. He spent countless hours over the years supporting organizations that were dear to him. As his children were growing, he was active in coaching, scouting and supporting St. Therese School. He was a prolific hunter and fisherman – something he cherished doing with friends and family and especially cherished doing with his grandchildren in more recent years. You knew when you were going fishing with John it was going to be a successful and fun day on the water! An avid Pilot fan, he held U.P. basketball season tickets since 1976 and he played basketball regularly. Having been a caddie in his youth, John picked up a love for golf and golfed passionately throughout his life with many valued friends. He also bowled (quite well) in the Knights of Columbus league for over 40 years.
John was a founding member of the La Salle Educational Foundation Board, and was active with many organizations over the years, including: The Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, La Salle Catholic College Prep Board of Trustees, Legacy of Faith Foundation, Knights of Columbus, Discussion Club group at U.P., and Eton Lane Foundation.

John is survived by his wife of 42 years, Del; children, William, David, Patrick (Alyssa), Charlie (Rebecca), Elizabeth Jones (Adam) and Angela; grandchildren, Dominic, Lucas, Caleb, Bridget, Caroline, Samuel and Madeleine; siblings, Joe (Frances), Jim (Katy), Paul (Kirsten), Bob (Cynthia), Margaret and Anne St. Mary (Jeff); and many loved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Services will be held Saturday, Dec. 21, 2019 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in North Portland. Recitation of the rosary will take place at 10:15 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the La Salle Educational Foundation, Class of ’73 Scholarship Fund or the Providence Foundations Cancer Fund.
