February 11, 1921 ~ August 16, 2015 (age 94)
Joe was born in the Washington County farming community of Roy, Oregon on February 11th, 1921. The sixth of nine children to Joseph and Antoinette Moore, Joe helped his mother run the family’s General Store until being drafted into the U.S Army and deployed to Okinawa during World War II. He was seriously injured during a mortar attack after just two weeks on the island and spent most of the following two years in military hospitals recuperating.
After returning to the Portland area, he spent some time in the grocery business with family members before enrolling at Mt. Angel Seminary. Joe loved the lifelong friendships he made while attending Mt. Angel. In 1966 he married Mary Teresa Craviotto and they raised two boys as Joe spent his working life as a Letter Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, spending many years delivering mail on routes in the Hollywood District and, later, along West Burnside in Portland.
Joe was actively involved in the Catholic Church, St. Pius X parish, the St. Vincent DePaul Society and the Blanchet House of Hospitality among many other charitable organizations.
He is survived by sons Joe and Mike, daughter-in-law Kristen and six grandchildren, Rachel, Emily, Megan, Madeline, Joey and Hayden, as well as brothers Tom (Mary Ellen) and Jack (Josephine) and many nieces and nephews.
