October 17, 1925 ~ March 23, 2015 (age 89)
Parents were Walter P. Teegardin and Lulu Wilhelm Teegardin. Siblings Grahame Teegardin and Rosemary Teegardin Lind.
Josephine married Maurice Pohl (1921-2003) in 1947 in Lansing Michigan.
Survivors include children Leslie Pohl-Kosbau and Alex Pohl. Grandchildren Thomas Kosbau, Merlin Pohl and Eric Kosbau, niece Teddi Kachi and nephew Graham Lind, step-son Robert Pohl.
Josephine was a life-long musician, taking her childhood piano lessons from Leonard Odegaard in Seattle. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Seattle and went on to study at Michigan State University and the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Canada. Later, she graduated from Portland State University with a teaching degree in English and a Masters in Special Education. She earned another Masters in Library Science from the University of Oregon, and a Music Performance degree from Marylhurst. She was the Librarian and high school teacher at the Washington State School for the Blind for twenty years.
Josephine Pohl was an accomplished pianist, who performed at the Old Church, the Community Music Center, and other venues in Portland. She accompanied and played for the West Hills Unitarian Fellowship, Catlin Gabel Hillside Chorus and the Children’s Choir at First Unitarian Church. She had many friends and associates in music, and played in chamber ensembles and for singers for more than twenty-five years.
Donations in her name may be made to the Community Music Center, Inc. and to The Oregon Humane Society.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 2, 2015, 1:00pm, at the Unitarian Church, 1011 SW 12th Street, Portland, OR 97205.
