Joyce Barron Obituary

Joyce was born December 8, 1932 in Portland, to Orville Kern Buckner Sr. and Margaret Joyce Buckner.

Joyce grew up in Portland and attended the Engineering School at Purdue University, one of the few engineering schools that accepted women students, and graduated with a Bachelor degree in Aeronautical Engineering.

She lived for a time in Southern California before returning to Portland in the late 1980’s. Joyce married Thurston B. “TB” Barron Jr. in 1976 and he passed away June 8, 2007. Joyce worked in business computing and data processing.

Joyce left us Thursday, March 9, 2017 in Portland.

Joyce is survived by her brother, Orville Kern Buckner II; sister-in-law, Janet Elaine Buckner; aunt, Helga Joyce; niece Kimberlin Renee Buckner, nephew, Orville Kern Buckner III; stepdaughter, Jennifer Barron Lin; and her very good friend and caregiver, Joana Olaru.

Joyce and TB enjoyed cruising and they explored the world including Antarctica. She will be remembered for her sharp mind and her love of animals, especially dogs and penguins.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
