Judy Sturgeon died at the Hopewell Hospice Center in Portland on Sunday morning, July 17, 2011 after a brief illness.

Judy was born to Joseph George Berkshire and Needra Toomey Berkshire in Portland. Judy and her family were all members of The Madeleine Church Parish. She attended The Madeleine School (1952-1960), Holy Child Academy (1960-1964) and Gonzaga University (1964-1968), where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music.

On May 30, 1969, Judy married Michael Dennis Sturgeon at The Madeleine Church. They shared 42 wonderful married years until her death. On January 28, 1974, Judy gave birth to their only child, Christopher Michael Sturgeon.

In her professional career, Judy taught high school music and business courses full time at Chemawa Indian School from 1968-1972. She was a full time legal secretary and paralegal from 1974-2011 and was well-recognized and highly regarded throughout the legal community for her excellence and extensive knowledge in the legal field.

Judy’s great love was baseball…particularly the Cubbies and Babe Ruth youth baseball. Her expertise in baseball score-keeping was second to none and she was the official scorekeeper at many Babe Ruth District, State and Regional Tournaments and at many local high school games.

Judy left her footprint in many areas and disciplines and will be sorely missed by all with whom she had contact.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Joanne Berkshire. She is survived by her husband, Michael, her son, Christopher and her granddaughter, Abigail Sturgeon.
