Julia Olivares Obituary

Julia “Umbe” Olivares died peacefully May 17, 2019, in Tigard, at the age of 91.

Julia was preceded in death by her husband, Felix; sisters, Laude and Jorge; and brothers, Jobito, Rene and Ramon.

Julia was a devoted mother and is survived by her children, Umbelina (Mike) Peizner, of Tigard, Felix (Kathy) of Beaverton, Betty (Soheil) Pakzad, of Wayzata, Minn., John, of Portland; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Julia was born in 1928 in Las Minas, Cuba. She married Felix Manuel Olivares in 1953. After moving to the U.S., Julia fostered boys fleeing Cuba in the 1960s. She was an accomplished tailor in Portland for over 40 years before retiring to spend time with her adoring family and cultivating her gardens.

A private inurnment will be held May 25, 2019. There will be a Celebration of Life open house for family and friends from 4-8 p.m., Sunday, May 26, 2019 at the Peizner home.
