A rosary will be said at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Friday, September 5, 2014, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church for Julie Marie Amato. Julie passed away August 26, 2014, in Portland.
She was born May 17, 1919, in Portland, the daughter of Salvatore and Providenzia Amato. She was vice president of her Commerce High School graduating Class of 1937. She was a member of St. Neri Catholic Church from birth to 1989, and a member of Holy Rosary Church for the past 25 years.
She was a secretary for 15 years with Bonneville Power Administration, 20 years with Bureau of Indian Affairs, and six years with Stan Wiley Realty. In 1948, she co-chaired the annual St. Philip Neri Church Bazaar and the Parish 75th Anniversary Celebration.
She was a counselor for Junior Catholic Daughters of America from 1944 to 1949. She was a member of the Legion of Mary from 1942 to 1967; Commitium president from 1962 to 1965 and St. Philip Neri Parish counsel secretary from 1967 to 1976. She was an active altar society member in both churches. She was a First Friday Night vigil participant at Holy Rosary Church, a perpetual Adoration participant at St. Agatha Church and did prison ministry in 1971 and 1972. She tutored at Abernathy and Sacred Heart schools.
She was an active bowler, dancer, golfer and traveler, and in the Pro-Life movement.
She is survived by her sister, Helen Draper of Portland; and nephews, James Draper and John Draper; nieces, Chris Vancil and Nancy Pollock; and several great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and three brothers.
