May 23, 1956 ~ April 22, 2020 (age 63)
“Your body is away from me, but there is a window open from my heart to yours.”
K. Roya Behbehani was born in May 1956 in Tehran, Iran to Sarah and Kayvan Behbehani. She graduated high school from Iran Swiss Academy in Tehran. She received a full scholarship from Lewis and Clark College in Oregon and graduated with a dual degree in French and Finance. She worked many years in banking while she completed her Master of Business Administration at University of Portland. Roya had three children and was married to Mohammad Avishan. She worked as Vice President of Advanced Markets and Development for Weststar Financials in Beaverton.
Roya had a passion for life and wanted to live life fully. She fought a courageous battle against brain cancer and left us on April 22, 2020.
Roya is survived by her husband, Mohammad Hossein Avishan, her daughter Persis, her son Arshaun, two granddaughters, Persia and Persis, her siblings Ala, Sal, Arya, Laya and Scot and her mother Sarah. She will be missed by all her friends and family. Roya’s eldest son, Ardalon, preceded her in death.
Roya was beautiful inside and out and loved by everyone who knew her. She was strong, kind, selfless, generous, fun, sweet and caring. She was always optimistic, positive and cheerful. She had the most beautiful and always ready smile that lit up her face even during the hardest of times. She was bubbly, vibrant and vivacious. She loved dancing. She had a wonderful sense of humor. If you were with her, you would always end up laughing.
She was bold, fearless and adventurous. She had a second-degree black belt in karate, and she was a Filipino martial arts stick fighting champion, she loved fly fishing, swimming, hiking, biking, camping, and anything outdoors. She loved music and outdoor concerts. She grew the best vegetables and was a fabulous cook. She was a wonderful host and entertainer and loved having family and friends over often.
Roya was an avid reader of spirituality, philosophy, religion, health and healthy eating. She was on a constant strive to be a better human being.
She was determined and go getter. Once she made up her mind about what she wanted done, nothing held her back and she got it done with amazing efficiency and always, always on time. She was religiously punctual and arrived at everything early.
Roya lived life on her own terms. She did not care about trends or brands, yet always selected best of quality and style in everything. She had an incredible sense of style and looked beautiful all the time.
And, most of all, she loved her children and adored her two beautiful granddaughters. They were her world. She loved and treasured her family. She loved her friends and valued her relationships. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, great sister and daughter, an amazing partner and a fabulous friend.
Roya will be missed forever. We know she is out there somewhere doing her favorite thing, dancing!

NAIFA Oregon would like to share our condolences with Roya’s family and friends. We are saddened by the loss of our dear and valued member. Roya was a past President of the Portland/NW chapter of our 130-year-old professional association, and was a consistent contributor to many of our organization’s efforts to help improve our local communities. We will miss your leadership, beautiful warm smiles and friendship, Roya!
Roya was a dear friend and inspirational leader to all of us in the local NAIFA chapter. It was always fun to meet at her business, as she would warmly welcome us all and was a terrific host. She had a fierce independent streak, and always seemed to have pragmatic, common sense approaches to challenges we faced in leadership. She was proud, for good reason, of her accomplishments, and always met people with a genuine graciousness and a big, bright smile! We will miss you Roya!
