December 24, 1929 ~ October 9, 2013 (age 83)
Joan attended the University of Oregon until her marriage in 1949 to the late E. Vernon Risberg. She graduated from Portland State University and went on to obtain a Master’s Degree in Teaching from Reed College. Joan enjoyed teaching English and Social Studies for many years at Cleveland and Madison High Schools before retiring.
Joan loved travelling the world with Vern, reading extensively, and spending time at the family cabin in Rockaway Beach. She was a member of Sigma Kappa sorority and Daughters of the Nile.
Joan and Vern were married over 54 years and leave behind a son Ronald Risberg of West Linn, daughters Kay Risberg of Las Vegas, NV and Barbara Risberg Cole (husband Don), of Bend. She is also survived by 7 loving grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, two sisters, brother-in-law Gerald Risberg (sister-in-law Marilyn) and several nieces and nephew, other relatives, and friends.
Memorial services for Joan will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 27th, 2013, at Riverview Abbey Funeral Home located at 0319 SW Taylors Ferry Road in Portland, where she will rest with her husband and other family members.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
