Donna was born in Mandan, North Dakota to Nick and Winifred “Sue” Messmer.

At age 5, she moved with her family to Portland, where she lived the rest of her life. She attended Grant High School and graduated with the class of 1952.

She met her future husband, Neil, while they were both working for IBM. They recently celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary.

Donna was artistically talented and channeled her efforts into quilt making, which she did passionately for the past 30 years.

She is survived by her husband Neil: sons, Mark and Bret Hokkanen; daughter, Nikki Webb; eight grandchildren; brothers, Richard, David, and Paul Messner.
